A "Proper" Coffee

Morola Gray Line

Morola Italian coffee is part of the Finca Rio Colorado project in Las Capucas, a unique human laboratory where work is being done to develop a model of truly sustainable integration between humans and nature. Finca Rio Colorado is the first plantation of the Umami Area Honduras SA de CV project.

Umami Area Honduras SA de CV is a company founded in February 2017 by an international partnership that aims to demonstrate that an integrated agricultural model of cafficulture is possible. Partners from Italy, Germany, and Honduras are committed to the redevelopment of part of the coffee-growing area of Las Capucas. A partner in the initiative is the COCAFCAL cooperative, which with more than 800 members represents an important business and social reality for the local community.

100% Sustainable Agriculture

Umami Area Honduras has purchased its first plantation in the Las capucas area, Corquin, in the Copán region of western Honduras, near the border with Guatemala and El Salvador. Finca Rio Colorado represents a first step with which the project aims to demonstrate that the production of high-quality coffee under a biodynamic agricultural regime is possible. The plantation is bordered by two rivers that mark the boundary to the north and south from which a study for hydroelectric power generation has begun. Currently, agronomists from the COCAFCAL cooperative are using the plantation as a venue for training young technicians who together with the finca management staff have begun the process of converting production to organic coffee.

During the coffee harvesting period, about 70 people are employed to harvest fruit from the Arabica Catuaì, Bourbon, Typica, Lempira and IHCAFE 90 plants.
